The Yankees won’t have Max Fried for at least two weeks as he’s back on the IL, but this felt a little more like roster manipulation than anything, and Fried might actually be just getting a little rest ahead of October. That and our usual mid-week trip around the major leagues. Let’s get to it.

I’m not going to bury the lede here. Tuesday afternoon at 4:32 p.m., my daughter Taylor gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Lawrence O’Toole Hall III. It’s mine and my wife Christine’s first grandchild, and we could not be more excited.

But guess what? Baseball stops for almost nothing, there was a full slate of games Tuesday night, and of course there was some concerning Yankees news in the face of a victory over Baltimore, though my initial feeling is that it’s not all that concerning.

Max Fried went back on the injured list with what the Yankees called a bone bruise on his left elbow, the same injury that knocked him out for about 10 weeks earlier this season. But with Carlos Rodon coming off the injured list and starting on Tuesday, this felt like a little bit of a phantom IL stint to me.

Even Aaron Boone hinted that this wasn’t a big deal, calling it “low level inflammation as a result of the bone bruise.”

When he spoke to reporters before the Yankees’ 3-1 victory, Boone said, “I was told it was good news and this gives us the best chance to have him healthy the rest of the way. We just kind of collectively decided it’s probably best to make sure we get this calmed down and hopefully keep it a smaller issue.”

Max Fried went back on the injured list Tuesday, but it doesn’t feel like something to be worried about.

Look, maybe Fried’s bone bruise is acting up. He said he he felt a little something in his previous start last Thursday, a 1-0 loss to the Mariners when he allowed the lone run on five hits and two walks in five innings. He said that day it was “definitely a grind” so I’m sure something is going on.

I just don’t think it’s something serious which is why this felt very convenient for the Yankees. They were going to need to send someone down to make room for Rodon’s return, but instead they just put Fried on the IL for what has to be a
